Four US Secret Service execs have been sacked and two more retired following the security lapses in the agency's work, the agency's acting director announced Wednesday.

MOSCOW, January 15 (Sputnik) — Four senior US Secret Service executives have been fired and two more have opted for retirement in a major management shake-up, the agency's acting director told The Washington Post.

"Change is necessary to gain a fresh perspective on how we conduct business… I am certain any of our senior executives will be productive and valued assets either in other positions at the Secret Service of the department," Joseph P. Clancy said in a statement to the media.

The Secret Service has come under scrutiny after a string of high-profile security lapses last year. Lawmakers and administration officials have criticized the agency for poor decision-making, which they say is destroying the agency's reputation, the media outlet reported Wednesday.

The firings follow the October 2014 resignation of former director Julia Pierson over a series of security lapses, including allowing a private security guard with a weapon and a criminal history board an elevator with US President Barack Obama.

Other recent incidents include a man jumping a White House fence and getting into the East Room in September 2014, reports of two counter-sniper officials drinking and getting into a car accident in Florida and an agent passing out drunk in an Amsterdam hotel a day before Obama arrived for a March European summit.

All of these scandals led a December 2014 Department of Homeland Security panel to conclude the Secret Service was “starved for leadership.”
