Founder of Egan-Jones Ratings Company said that the military conflict in Ukraine and Western sanctions imposed on Russia could hamper cooperation between Russia and other Universal Credit Rating Group members.

MOSCOW, January 15 (Sputnik) — The military conflict in Ukraine and Western sanctions imposed on Russia could hamper cooperation between Russia and other Universal Credit Rating Group (UCRG) members, Sean Egan, the founder of Egan-Jones Ratings Company, told Sputnik on Thursday.

"As a result of military actions undertaken by Russia, it's made it more difficult for… organization to work with Russian counterparties," Egan said. "There is some concern in the various governments that there're partial sanctions, and companies are concerned about running afoul of those sanctions."

UCRG was officially set up in 2013 as a partnership between Chinese rating agency Dagong, Russia's RusRating and US rating company Egan-Jones. According to RusRating, currently the parties have equal shares in the project, but new partners are expected in the future, which will change the present distribution of shares.

"As far as rating activities are concerned, we do not share an opinion that cooperation with us can cause our partners any problems. RusRating has a completely transparent shareholding structure and we are not in any way affiliated with either the government, or the companies that are on the sanctioned companies lists," General Director Alexander Zaitsev said.

He stressed that UCRG is designed for developing markets that have not joined the policy of sanctions. According to Zaitsev, both Russia and China enjoy successful cooperation within the UCRG project.

He also said that UCRG was registered in Hong Kong, which eliminated any risks associated with the development of global policies.

On Tuesday, Head of RusRating's Research Department Alexander Ovchinnikov told Sputnik that the first ratings of the UCRG were expected as early as 2015.
