MOSCOW, January 17 (Sputnik) — Libya’s Islamist-backed Dawn militia alliance has announced a full ceasefire following the UN-brokered peace talks, where the warring sides have managed to reach a compromise, Sky News Australia reported Saturday.

According to Sky News Australia, the Dawn alliance said that Libyan militias have agreed to “a ceasefire on all fronts” in case that “the other parties respect the truce”.

The Libya Dawn’s statement followed the UN-brokered peace talks, where the conflicting sides have agreed to form a unity government.

Earlier this week, the UN press service reported that the consultations between the warring sides were intensive, constructive, and were conducted in a positive atmosphere.

A civil war in Libya erupted back in 2011, after the country's long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown. Several militia groups were fighting for power in the country.

According to the UN, thousands have died during the the conflict, and the war has led to a severe humanitarian crisis. More than 120,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, there are food and clean water shortages across the country.
