MOSCOW, January 17 (Sputnik) — One of two police officers hospitalized after being shot by a gunman in western Canada is in "grave" condition, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) assistant commissioner Marlin Degrand said on Saturday.
"The names of these officers will not be released at this time, but I can tell you that one is in very grave condition, and the other is in serious but stable condition," Degrand told reporters at a press conference.
According to the commissioner, the suspect is still at large in the vicinity of St. Albert, a northern suburb of Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province.
The uniformed officers were shot and wounded "during an interaction with an individual at a casino," who Degrand identified as a suspect in the case involving a vehicle theft.
A manhunt is underway for an approximately 30-year-old "armed and dangerous" white male and local residents were asked to stay away from the area of the ongoing investigation.
