MOSCOW, January 17 (Sputnik) — The death toll in the Melbourne Square Mall shooting in Florida, US has risen to two, the WESH TV channel reported Saturday, citing the local police.
Earlier in the day, Melbourne Police Commander Vince Pryce told journalists that one person was dead in a result of the shooting and two others were transported to a local hospital with injuries.
According to the WESH TV channel, the shooter himself was one of the two people who died. The survived victim is in stable condition.
The shopping mall is currently closed, with police investigating the area.
Gun violence has become more frequent in the United States, with public shootings taking place every two months, according to Harvard research published in October 2014. In the most tragic incident, 20 first-grade students and six adults were killed by a lone shooter in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut on December 14, 2012.
