DONETSK, January 18 (Sputnik) – The city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine is still under fire from the positions of the Kiev forces, the militia headquarters of the self-proclaimed people's republic of Donetsk (DPR) have informed RIA Novosti.

One of the shells hit a children's playground, but it was empty at the time of the attack and no children were hurt.

Fighting in south-eastern Ukraine continues despite the ceasefire agreement reached between representatives of the self-proclaimed people's republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DPR and LPR) and Kiev in September, 2014 in the Belarusian capital, Minsk.

The city of Donetsk and the Donetsk airport have recently re-emerged as a crisis area since the onset of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, where Kiev launched a military operation against local independence supporters in April.

According to UN estimates, more than 4,700 people have been killed in the course of the conflict, and over 10,000 have been wounded.
