Thousands of Orthodox Christians celebrate Epiphany on January 19, which marks the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan. It is believed that on this day water becomes holy, and in commemoration of this special religious holiday, Russian Christians across the country brave subzero temperatures as they immerse into icy rivers and frozen lakes.
