Moscow, January 19 (Sputnik) — A 33-year old Algerian man wanted in Belgium on terrorism-related charges is due to appear before a Greek judge who will decide on the extradition of Belgium, reports Associated Press.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested on a European arrest warrant Sunday, a day after his detention in Athens, where he was residing.
Belgian authorities asked their Greek counterparts to extradite the man in connection with a probe of a suspected plot to kill police in Belgium, reports AP.
So far, 13 people have been arrested in Belgium in connection with the investigation, five of whom have been charged with "participating in the activities of a terrorist group."
The Belgian government has raised the terror alert level to its second-highest level amidst concerns over young Europeans returning home after fighting and training alongside extremist groups in the Middle East and Africa.
