"Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) has raised a billion dollars in a financing round with two new investors, Google and Fidelity," the company said. "This funding will be used to support continued innovation in the areas of space transport, reusability, and satellite manufacturing."
According to SpaceX, Google and Fidelity have become fifth and sixth investors of the company and will own collectively almost 10 percent of SpaceX.
SpaceX is advanced rockets and spacecraft manufacturer, founded in 2002. Currently, the company has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA, under which it will fly at least 12 cargo resupply missions to the International Space Station (ISS).
On January 12, the ISS crew successfully captured the SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft on its fifth resupply mission that was carrying more than two tonnes of supplies and equipment to the station.
