SpaceX Raises $1Bln in Financing From Google,Fidelity to Support Innovation

US space transport services company SpaceX has raised a billion dollars in a financing round with two new investors, Google and Fidelity Investments to support continued innovation in the areas of space transport, reusability, and satellite manufacturing.

MOSCOW, January 21 (Sputnik) — US space transport services company SpaceX has received a $1 billion investment from Google and Fidelity Investments to support its activity, the company has said on its website.

"Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) has raised a billion dollars in a financing round with two new investors, Google and Fidelity," the company said. "This funding will be used to support continued innovation in the areas of space transport, reusability, and satellite manufacturing."

According to SpaceX, Google and Fidelity have become fifth and sixth investors of the company and will own collectively almost 10 percent of SpaceX.

"Space-based applications, like imaging satellites, can help people more easily access important information, so we're excited to support SpaceX's growth as it develops new launch technologies," a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying by CNNMoney.

SpaceX is advanced rockets and spacecraft manufacturer, founded in 2002. Currently, the company has a $1.6 billion contract with NASA, under which it will fly at least 12 cargo resupply missions to the International Space Station (ISS).

On January 12, the ISS crew successfully captured the SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft on its fifth resupply mission that was carrying more than two tonnes of supplies and equipment to the station.
