MOSCOW, January 21 (Sputnik) – Earlier this month, Jessie Gallan, the oldest woman in Scotland, celebrated her 109th birthday; when asked about her longevity, she revealed that the secret to a long and healthy life is simple – eat lots of porridge and stay away from men, the Telegraph reports.
“My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth,” wisely noted the old woman, as cited by the Daily Mail. “I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married.”

Eating healthy and exercising plenty to have a long and happy life are the two things that many people have heard before, but avoiding men at all cost is an advice that one might rarely come across.
Gallan said she started working at the age of 13 and never had to depend on anybody, Business Insider reports.
But perhaps one does not need to avoid men to live a long life, as Leandra Becerra, a 127-year old Mexican woman widely recognized as the world’s oldest person, has proved. When asked about the secret of her longevity, Becerra said that chocolate is her secret to a long life. The chocolate-loving Mexican woman has 73 great-grandchildren and 55 great-great-grandchildren, the Telegraph reports.
