“The loss of life by the opponent’s forces overnight stands at around 60 people,” deputy Donetsk militia commander Eduard Basurin said, adding that Donbas independence supporters also destroyed one infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) and three armored personnel carriers (APCs).
According to Basurin, eight Donbas fighters were killed and 16 wounded.
Since the beginning of 2015, Donbas is seeing intensified clashes between Kiev forces and local independence supporters, with the area around Donetsk Airport being among the conflict’s main hot spots.
On Wednesday, the UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs said the United Nations is alarmed by the worst hostilities the region has experienced since ceasefire agreements between the sides were reached on a September 5 meeting in Minsk.
According to the most recent UN data, since the ceasefire was declared, more than 5,000 people have died on both sides as a result of the conflict.
