The decision to open the air, sea and land crossings into Yemen's southern port city of Aden comes after the country’s Houthi opposition movement announced that its militants would withdraw their forces from the presidential palace in Sanaa.
The move, in its turn, comes as Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and head of the Houthi political council Saleh Sammad, reached an agreement during a meeting on Wednesday.
Tensions in the country flared Saturday after Hadi's chief of staff was kidnapped along with two of his guards by the rebels. Ongoing clashes between government forces and fighters have subsequently been reported across Sanaa since early Monday, leaving at least 18 people killed and dozens wounded.
On Tuesday, the militia seized President Hadi’s offices at the presidential palace and attacked his residence, in what officials said was an attempt to overthrow the government.
The United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks and backed Hadi as the country’s "legitimate authority".
