NEW DELHI, January 24 (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama has cancelled his visit to the Indian city of Agra, to see the famous Taj Mahal mausoleum, Indian Home Ministry said on Saturday.
Obama's visit has been cancelled as the president will go to Saudi Arabia to pay tribute to the deceased King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who died on Friday at the age of 90.
"The President regrets that he will be unable to visit Agra during this trip," Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, was cited as saying by CNN.
The US president was scheduled to visit the Taj Mahal, with his wife Michelle Obama, on January 27.
Obama will arrive in India on Sunday, after having accepted a personal invitation by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be chief guest at the country’s Republic Day celebrations.
