The event will take place at 5 p.m. local time (13:00 GMT) in the city's southern district and will be attended by Donetsk Mayor Igor Martynov and Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) officials, among others, Donetsk news agency reported.
DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko expressed condolences to the families of the victims and declared Saturday, January 24, a day of mourning in the republic.
The flags are lowered on the whole territory of the self-proclaimed republic and all entertainment events have been cancelled.
On Thursday, two shells struck a trolleybus stop in the eastern Ukrainian city killing at least eight people and injuring 17 others, according to the latest data. The DPR authorities stated that the Ukrainian Security Forces fired the shells at the stop, presumably from a mortar.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has denied any involvement in the tragedy and put the blame for the incident on militia forces.
The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in Ukraine condemned the deadly attack and urged all sides to the conflict to cease hostilities.
