MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) — The French Riviera villa where Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed started their romance is for sale with a price of about 70 million pounds ($105 million), Daily Mail reports.
This 30-bed St Tropez castle is also the place where Diana and Al-Fayed spent their final holiday.
Insiders said the interiors of the estate would hardly have changed since Diana was there nearly 18 years ago, according to Daily Mail.
Mohamed Al Fayed and his second wife, Heini, first invited the Princess of Wales and her sons William and Henry to spend a holiday at the villa in July 1997. The tycoon also invited his 42-year-old son Dodi to join them.
A brochure from estate agents Knights Frank shows how luxurious the property is, describing it as "a superb waterfront property".
"There is a principal villa at the height of the property with spectacular sea views, a waterfront villa with its own pool, plus further independent staff and guest accommodation," it reads.
For $105 million, a purchaser will get the four-acre site within the private community of Les Parc de St Tropez, a main villa with nine bedrooms, two kitchens, a swimming pool and terraces. The estate also has a waterfront beach house, a yacht mooring site and independent staff and guest accommodation.
Neighbors have included Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH luxury goods conglomerate, according to Daily Mail.
The property was built in the 1860s and was originally owned by Ferdinand de Lesseps, the developer of the Suez Canal.
The brochure contains no detailed asking price. However, insiders said a price of 70 million pounds was mentioned.
Al Fayed’s spokesman Michael Cole confirmed that the tycoon had decided to put the property up for sale as he had barely used it since his children had grown up.
"He [Al Fayed] and his family have happy memories of St Tropez over many years and will always remember the summer of 1997 with great happiness and, of course, with tremendous sadness and regret at the way it ended," Cole was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
