MOSCOW, January 27 (Sputnik) – Lizard Squad, the group that hacked the Malaysia Airlines’ website on Monday, claimed responsibility for taking down the websites of popular social networks, Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook and Instagram were unavailable worldwide for approximately 40 minutes earlier on Tuesday prompting users to turn to Twitter to discuss the outage with hashtags like #Facebookdown and #ThingsIDidWhenFacebookWasDown. The first one is currently the most popular hashtag on the microblogging network.

The Lizard Squad hackers are known for cyberattacks on Xbox and PlayStation systems in late December 2014. They also claimed responsibility for an attack on the Malaysia Airlines website on Monday.
