Russian Watchdog to Limit Canadian Pork Imports Over Feed Additives
MOSCOW, January 28 (Sputnik) — Russia's agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said Wednesday it had decided to impose temporary restrictions on imports of pork, pig products and breeder pigs from Ukraine's Kiev Region following an outbreak of African swine fever.

"Having not received any notification from Ukraine's State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service, Rosselkhoznadzor has requested the Ukrainian side to provide information on measures taken to stop the outbreak and prevent its further spread," Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement.

In 2014, several cases of African swine fever have been reported in Ukraine. African swine fever was also detected in produce in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.

Following the reports, in April, Russia banned live pigs, pork and other related products from the European Union.

In December, the watchdog said that the African swine fever gene had been discovered in products imported into Russia from Belarus.

African swine fever affects domestic pigs, warthogs and wild pigs. There is no vaccine or treatment. The virus is very stable and can remain in produce for months.
