NEW DELHI, January 28 (Sputnik) – Indian foreign secretary Sujata Singh resigned from her post, a high-ranking source in the country's External Affairs Ministry told Sputnik Wednesday.
According local media reports, the government replaced Singh with Indian ambassador to the US, Jaishankar.
The reason for the shakeup is not known.
The change comes a day after the US President Barack Obama visited India. During his visit, Obama expressed hope that the United States could become India's "best partner."
The president's comments followed a remark made by US Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes on Monday, claiming that the United States would surpass Russia as India's strongest and closest partner.
