Trial of Alleged Russian Cybercriminal Seleznev Moved to May 2015
MOSCOW, January 29 (Sputnik) – Russia blacklisted four US Justice Department officials, related to last year’s detention of Russian citizen Roman Seleznev by US secret service agents in the Maldives, Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“The following US Department of Justice officials related to the abduction of our compatriot Roman Seleznev in July 2014 in the Maldives [have been put on the list]: Charles Seth Wilkinson, Ethan Ray Arenson, Kathryn Warma, Norman Barbosa,” Foreign Ministry's statement said.

According to the US prosecutors, between October 2009 and October 2013 Seleznev hacked into retail point-of-sale systems and installed malware in order to steal more than two million credit card numbers from a number of businesses.

Last July, Seleznev was detained by US forces in Maldives, taken to Guam and then Washington. Russia's Foreign Ministry and Seleznev's father branded the incident a "kidnapping."

December 2012, the US Senate passed the Magnitsky Act, which allowed Washington to deny visas and freeze the assets of Russian officials allegedly involved in the death in detention of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.

Russia has responded to the Magnitsky Act by issuing its own blacklist, which includes US officials linked to human rights violations, including at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
