WASHINGTON, January 30 (Sputnik) – Mitt Romney from US Republican Party announced his decision to skip 2016 US presidential run, according to Romney’s remarks.
“After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I have decided it is best to give other leaders in the Party the opportunity to become our next nominee,” Romney said in a statement to his supporters on Friday.
The former governor of Massachusetts ran for US presidency in 2012 as the official candidate from the Republican Party, but lost to the incumbent US President Barack Obama.
Romney also was one of the Republican Party candidates for US presidential elections back in 2008, but eventually lost to US Senator John McCain who represented the Republicans.
