MOSCOW, January 30 (Sputnik) — A high-ranking British diplomat was the focus of a recently released secret government file regarding his "unnatural" sexual behaviour, Sky News reported.
Sir Peter Hayman, who worked for British intelligence service MI6 and served as High Commissioner to Canada, was named as the subject of a file entitled "PREM 19/588 SECURITY. Sir Peter Hayman: allegations against former public official of unnatural sexual proclivities; security aspects" for then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
A Salford University lecturer alerted Sky News of the existence of the file. Once news of the file broke in British media, the matter was raised in the House Of Commons, where parliamentarians voted for it to be made public.
Earlier this month, a Labour party parliamentarian wrote to all UK party leaders to "put all other considerations aside and urgently uncover and pass on any information relating to child abuse." Following the letter, the UK Prime Minister David Cameron agreed to open the Conservative Party's central office and the party's office of whips, which monitors the indiscretions of members of parliament, for an investigation.
