“Any symptoms specific to this disease have not been registered. The likelihood that the patient’s malaise is caused by the Ebola virus is small,” Oleg Salagaev said.
The patient’s samples have been sent to the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology VECTOR in the city of Novosibirsk. The results are due to be ready on Sunday evening, the spokesman added.
Earlier on Sunday, local authorities said that a Red Cross worker had been hastily transported to an anti-epidemic hospital in Ussuriysk. The suspected Ebola patient, who had previously visited Africa, arrived by plane from Moscow to Vladivostok earlier the same day.
All fellow passengers from the Moscow-Vladivostok flight have been notified of the situation and will be closely monitored by health officials.
