MOSCOW, February 2 (Sputnik) – A demonstration has been organized in New York City to honour Malcolm X, an African-American activist, and call for an end to racial profiling within the US law enforcement system, which became evident last year amid multiple revelations of African-Americans being killed by white police officers.

"Rally for #MalcolmXDay in Harlem now," Occupy Wall Street NYC said in a tweet on Sunday.
Malcolm X, an African-American Muslim minister and human activist, was assassinated in February 1965, by three members of the Nation of Islam (NOI) religious movement. Malcolm X was one of NOI leaders before he became disillusioned with the movement and founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
The demonstrators were holding a "Black Lives Matter" banner and chanting "The whole damn system is guilty as hell!", "Fight Back!" and signing the "I Can't Breathe" song, referring to the death of African-American Eric Garner in a chokehold administered by a white police officer.
The United States saw a wave of nationwide protests following two controversial grand jury decisions last year not to prosecute white police officers who killed unarmed African-Americans Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
Garner, 43, suffocated to death when officer Daniel Pantaleo held him in a chokehold in New York on July 19, 2014. Brown, 18, was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson while walking down a backstreet in Ferguson, Missouri, on August 9.
