MOSCOW, February 2 (Sputnik) — At least 15 haredi (ultra-orthodox) protesters were arrested in Israel’s Ashdod after they took part in an unauthorized demonstration over a young man’s detention for not enlisting in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), The Jerusalem Post reported Monday.
Dozens of demonstrators reportedly disturbed the peace by blocking traffic in the city.
Similar demonstrations took place in Jerusalem on Sunday. The protesters blocked traffic in the capital and overturned garbage cans all over the city center. The rally on Sunday resulted in a teenager’s arrest.
According to the Israeli Defense Service Law, serving in the IDF is mandatory for all Israeli citizens who have turned 18.
