The statement comes in light of the Dalai Lama's upcoming visit to Washington.
"China is opposed to any nation or government using the Tibet issue to interfere in China's domestic affairs, and opposed to any country's leader meeting with the Dalai Lama in any form," Hong Lei, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, was quoted as saying by The Economic Times.
According to the newspaper, Lei also said that the United States should deal appropriately with issues "keeping with the overall interests of bilateral relations."
White House spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan, however, was quoted by the newspaper as saying that they had no specific meetings with the Dalai Lama to announce.
According to the White House, the Dalai Lama is expected to attend a prayer breakfast in Washington on February 5 where Obama will deliver a speech, although no official meeting between the two has been announced. Obama and the Dalai Lama previously had a meeting in February 2014 which Beijing was unhappy about.
