Baird, 45, is planning to make a statement regarding his resignation at Canada's House of Commons at 10:00 a.m. local time (15:00 GMT), according to the news outlet.
Baird is expected to move to the private sector, CBC said, citing undisclosed sources.
According to other media reports, Baird was considering joining the team of former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who was appointed in 2014 as co-chairman of the United Nations Independent Commission on Multilateralism (ICM), launched by International Peace Institute (IPI), an international think tank aimed at promoting global peace and security.
Whatever John @Baird does next you can bet there will be lots of action, noise and laughter. #cdnpoli

While acting as a foreign minister, Baird was overseeing Canada's response to the war in Libya, the crisis in Ukraine and the case of imprisoned Canadian-Egyptian journalist Mohamed Fahmy, arrested in Egypt in 2013 for allegedly conspiring with the Muslim Brotherhood movement, now declared a terrorist organization.
Prior to assuming the post of foreign minister, Baird served as transport, infrastructure and communities minister from 2008-2010, environment minister from 2007 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2011, and Treasury Board president from 2006 to 2007.
Sad to hear the news about @Baird Best boss I ever had and a good friend. He has a bright future ahead but Canada is worse off without him.
