MOSCOW – The Sukhoi Su-35S, Russia’s new highly-maneuverable multirole fighter jet, is expected to enter service in 2015, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.
It will be necessary to conduct quality assurance trials for the new aircraft and make sure its performance characteristics meet the required technical level, Shoigu said.
“This is the main task for this year”, he added.
The Sukhoi Su-35S, also known as Flanker E, is a single-seat twin-engine and highly-maneuverable multirole aircraft. Su-35S is Russia’s latest version of its famous predecessor Su-27. The jet is considered to be a 4++ generation jet and its export price is about $85 million, RT reports.
The Su-35S has a new avionics suite that can effectively rival with any fifth-generation jet, with the proven reliability of the fourth-generation frame, Business Insider said.
