“Royal Air Force (RAF) aircraft inflicted further damage on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist network in Iraq over the weekend,” the news release read.
According to the Defense Ministry, on January 30, RAF Reaper drones conducted four strikes with Hellfire missiles on IS insurgents in western Iraq. The strikes continued till early Monday.
The United Kingdom has been part of a US-led coalition comprising more than 60 countries fighting against IS militants in Syria and Iraq. To assist the Iraqi government in its fight against the IS, RAF has launched multiple airstrikes against militants’ targets over the past five months. British military training team is also teaching infantry tactics and first aid skills to volunteers of the Peshmerga, Kurdish militia fighting IS militants on the ground.
