MOSCOW, February 3 (Sputnik) — A Smolensk woman arrested in Moscow last week on suspicion of spying for Ukraine has been released on bail, the lawyer said Tuesday.
Svetlana Davydova, mother of seven, was detained last Thursday and placed at the Lefortovo detention facility, according to media reports.
"The decision has been made to release [the defendant] on bail," Davydova's lawyer, Sergei Badamshin, told RIA Novosti, adding that she plans to go back to her family in the town of Vyazma.
Later on Tuesday, Badamshin confirmed Davydova's release from the detention center.
As reported by the Russian daily Kommersant, Davydova notified the Ukrainian Embassy in April 2014 that the Russian military base close to her home in Smolensk Region had been emptied out. Davydova speculated that soldiers who vacated the base may have been en route to the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk.
