MOSCOW, February 4 (Sputnik) — France has no plans to deliver lethal weapons to Ukraine despite sharp deterioration of the situation in the crisis-hit country, Reuters reported Wednesday citing Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
"We have no intention of delivering weapons at this stage to Ukraine," Reuters quoted Le Drian as saying at a news conference with Canadian Defense Minister Robert Nicholson.
Le Drian stressed that a political solution must be found to the current standoff between Kiev authorities and self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics in eastern Ukraine.
On Tuesday, the Donetsk People's Republic forces found ammunition used exclusively in NATO countries that the Ukrainian Army is not usually equipped with.
Last Monday, Ukrainian authorities met with NATO members in Brussels, requesting additional military assistance from the alliance.
