"The next session will debate a resolution on Ukraine, the events in Mariupol and the rise in hostilities. They will again condemn the activities of Russia and pro-Russia forces," said Tatjana Zdanoka, a Latvian member of the European Parliament from the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance.
A deadly shelling of the southeastern Ukrainian city of Mariupol last month killed around 30 civilians and wounded more than 90. Government troops and pro-independence militias in the region traded blame for the attack, with militias also reporting mortar attacks on their stronghold of Donetsk.
Hostilities renewed in eastern Ukraine in the first weeks of 2015, after the warring parties agreed on a ceasefire last September. The shaky truce was violated on many occasions, with both sides again, accusing each other of breaching the Minsk peace deal.
