KIEV (Sputnik) — US Secretary of State John Kerry will hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the February 7 Munich security conference, a senior State Department official said Thursday.
"He [Kerry] will meet with Foreign Minister Lavrov on Saturday as well," the official said describing the working agenda of the US secretary of state in the next three days.
The prospects of such a meeting have been outlined both by the US administration and the Russian authorities, but the date had not been confirmed.
Earlier on Thursday Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Kerry, currently in Kiev, will not stop in Moscow afterward. Ushakov added that Kerry had voiced his desire to come to Moscow and that the Kremlin supported the idea, but that his trip would not happen for another, unnamed reason.
French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Moscow on Friday to hold talks on the crisis situation in Ukraine.
