MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bosnian police raided the predominantly Wahhabi village of Gornja Maoca in the country's northeast after a local TV channel showed pictures of houses flying flags associated with the militant Islamic State group, the state investigative authority said Friday.

Images circulated on TV and in local newspapers, such as the Dnevni Avaz daily, showed black jihadi flags with white Arabic writing. A wooden shed was also pictured, covered with Islamist symbols and slogans.

Bosnia's Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) said the flags were no longer there when police arrived. It vowed to keep tabs on the security situation in the village.

Gornja Maoca is known to contain many people who consider themselves Wahhabis, and follow a radical branch of Sunni Islam. The village has been at the center of police attention after local media reported that over 150 Bosnians went to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside ISIL insurgents.
