On August 7, 1998 two trucks filled with explosive devices drove through US diplomatic posts in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya, and detonated, killing 224 people, including 12 US citizens, and wounding 4,500.

Adel Abdul Bary entered a guilty plea before a New York district court on September 19, 2014, on charges of conspiring to kill US nationals, using explosives and making threats to carry out these acts

Authorities in the United Kingdom first arrested Bary in September 1998 and he was extradited to New York October 2012.

According to the judge, time already served by Bary figured in the sentencing, leaving eight years of incarceration left for Bary.

A total of 21 people linked to the deadly US embassy bombings were charged.

Six of the convicted militants are serving life sentences in the United States, while eight, including Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri, have been killed by US military in the years since 2001.
