MOSCOW, February 7 (Sputnik) — A bomb reportedly exploded under a car of a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, in what the local media described on Saturday as an apparent assassination attempt by Palestinian militants.
The bombing attack took place in the Nuseirat refugee camp south of Gaza City on Friday, but media reports came with a delay.
The explosive device was strapped under the car of Sami Hams, of the Islamic group Hamas which controls Gaza, according to media. The blast wounded a civilian, but Hams was unhurt.
This is the second assassination attempt in recent weeks. The car of a Hamas security official was targeted in late January in the Palestinian enclave.
The Gaza Strip is awash with militant groups, gangs and clans. The Hamas group has claimed the upper hand in the territory and says it represents the Palestinian National Authority there.
