Mogherini stressed the need of finding a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine, while Poroshenko underlined the importance of the unified position of the European Union on the regulation of the crisis.
The press release notes the meeting took place a day before a EU Council meeting on foreign affairs, where decisions about situation in Donbas could be made.
Earlier this week, Poroshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande negotiated the ongoing conflict in Donbas during talks in Kiev.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reached by Kiev and eastern Ukrainian independence supporters in September 2014, fighting between the warring sides continued. The clashes intensified in recent weeks, branded by the UN the "worst hostilities" since the truce was signed.
