A shark has mauled 35-year-old surfer Jabez Reitman, in an attack that occurred off Australia's eastern coast, local media reports announced on Sunday.
The attack took place at Seven Mile Beach south of Byron Bay, New South Wales, where Reitman works as a chef. Byron Bay is a seaside town located at the easternmost point of Australia, and is known for its offbeat culture.
Reitman said that "he should have stayed in bed", referring to his decision to go surfing on Sunday to a tourist town located about 800 kilometers north of Sydney.
Medics said Reitman is still in hospital in stable condition.
