Agnieszka Radwanska, currently ranked 8th by the WTA, had previously faced Sharapova in 13 matches, losing all but two of them.

Following her match on Saturday, Sharapova remarked that she enjoyed playing in front of such a sizeable audience, regardless of whom the fans were rooting for.
