Historic Casablanca Hotel Collapses

Subscribe
A historic art-deco hotel from the French colonial era killed a man as it collapsed on Monday, amid concerns about more collapses in the city looming.

Casablanca's historic Hotel Lincoln collapsed on Monday, killing a 34-year-old man and injuring two others.

The hotel, built in 1917 by French architect Hubert Bride, was abandoned around 20 years ago, and became decrepit despite being listed as a historic landmark.

Although there were plans by preservationists to save the hotel, a landmark of art-deco architecture, the local government did not see the issue as a priority. The hotel is one of many historic buildings in Casablanca which face a similar fate
