WASHINGTON, February 9 (Sputnik) — US Independent Senator Bernie Sanders is contemplating running for President of the United States in 2016, Sanders announced at the Brookings Institution on Monday.
"It's no great secret that I am giving thought to running for president," Sanders said.
Noting the influence of billionaires on the current political candidates and government, Sanders said to be successful in 2016 he would have to "put together the strongest grassroots movement in modern history."
Sanders is the longest serving Independent senator in US history.
