MADRID (Sputnik) – The majority of Spaniards are in favor of life imprisonment, a poll by Spanish Metroscopia polling organization revealed Monday, ahead of the Congress vote on the proposition of the maximum penalty for terrorist offences in the Criminal Code.
Currently the maximum prison sentence that can be imposed in Spain is 40 years. However, two thirds of those who participated in the poll supported the introduction of life sentences, with 47 percent voting in favor of reversible life imprisonments.
Eighteen percent stated that they did not believe in life sentences.
