US Embassy in Yemen to Close
16:54 GMT 10.02.2015 (Updated: 13:30 GMT 06.08.2022) The US is closing down its embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and said its ambassador, Matthew Tueller, will leave the country on Wednesday.
Yemeni embassy employees on Tuesday said they were informed that Washington may ask the Turkish or Algerian embassies in Sanaa to look after its interests while the embassy is closed, according to Reuters news agency.
The US is suspending its operations in light of the turmoil in the country that has raised security concerns.
