Three mortar shells landed at a bus stop in downtown Donetsk in eastern Ukraine wounding several people in a taxi minibus, RIA Novosti reports, citing local independence supporters.
According to preliminary reports, the shells were fired from a short distance away, presumably by a Ukrainian army reconnaissance unit operating in the area.
Ukrainian forces are still holed up in neighboring Debaltseve, a major rail town and an important stopping point for goods traffic by rail from Russia.
The situation in the Donbass region deteriorated after the Ukrainian forces launched a major crackdown on the Donetsk airport.
Fighting in the conflict in eastern Ukraine has already left more than 5,000 people dead and has forced millions to flee their homes.
