The US House of Representatives is expected to pass the Senate version of the bill that authorizes the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline on Wednesday afternoon. The legislation will then be sent to US President Barack Obama, who has promised to veto the bill.

Although, the Republicans, who view the project as one of their top priorities, control both houses of Congress, they don’t have the necessary 67 votes to override the presidential veto.
The Keystone XL pipeline is designed to carry crude oil from the Canadian province of Alberta to the US refineries in the Gulf of Mexico. If the bill becomes law, Calgary-based energy company TransCanada will be able to carry out the infrastructure project.
