“Upon our departure our vehicles and equipment were seized reportedly by the Houthis, we are looking into this… We certainly are requesting they be returned,” Psaki told journalists on Wednesday.
Psaki stressed that such practice is unacceptable and respect for US property and facilities is essential for the US return to the Yemeni capital.
US State Department earlier on Wednesday urged its citizens to leave Yemen as soon as possible over deteriorating security situation, confirming that it had suspended embassy operation in Sanaa.
Security concerns followed a coup by the Houthi minority group. The Houthis, Yemeni Shiite opposition, took over a number of cities, including Sanaa, prompting the US-backed president to resign and declared that the group’s security arm, Revolutionary Committee, would govern Yemen.
