Protests Erupt in Washington State After Police Kill Man Throwing Rocks

The protesters on Wednesday demanded authorities investigate the case and hold officers involved in the incident accountable.

Antonio Zambrano-Montes died in the Tuesday night incident, which began when Pasco authorities received a 911 call about a man throwing rocks at cars in a grocery store parking lot, according to the police.

A YouTube video shows Zambrano-Montes running away from police with his hands above his head before he was shot.

Zambrano-Montes' cousin Maria Madrigal accused the police of excessive use of force, the radio station reported.

Another rally is planned for Saturday afternoon, according to media reports.

In recent months, police forces in the United States have been strongly criticized for their repeated excessive use of force, particularly in the wake of mass protests that came in response to a series of killings of unarmed black citizens by police officers.

The August shooting of black 18-year-old Michael Brown in Missouri by a white police officer received the most media coverage.
