WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Minsk agreements negotiated between Ukraine, France, Germany, Russia, and representatives of Donetsk and Lughansk are unenforceable and the proposed ceasefire will collapse within days, US Senator John McCain told Sputnik on Thursday.
“It sounds to me like it’s unenforceable. It’s a bandaid and my predictions to you, it will not last a week,” McCain said of the Ukrainian peace agreement signed on Thursday.
The agreement, signed by all parties calls for a ceasefire to begin at midnight on February 15 and also demands the mutual withdrawal of heavy weapons by both sides to create a security zone.
“If that happens, pigs will be flying,” the Republican senator said of the proposed withdrawal.
The OSCE will be monitoring the ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons scheduled to begin on February 17 and be completed within two weeks, according to the text of the agreement.
