BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday hailed the agreement worked out in Minsk as "excellent news."
"I believe that the agreement which was concluded in Minsk is excellent news, it's giving us some relief, I will have a meeting in a few minutes from now with Ukrainian President [Petro Poroshenko], we will assess the situation together," Juncker told the press.
The leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, and Russia worked out a reconciliation deal including 13 points aimed at ending the military confrontation between Kiev forces and independence supporters in eastern Ukraine.
The deal includes an unconditional ceasefire coming into force at midnight on February 15, urges Kiev to undertake constitutional reform with a focus on Ukraine’s decentralization, as well as stipulates the withdrawal of all foreign armed groups, equipment and mercenaries from eastern Ukraine under the observation of the OSCE.
The sides also agreed on a declaration in support of the measures.
