According to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's twitter, the accident happened at 7.35 a.m. when the engine and eight coaches jumped the track and derailed after the train left Bangalore. The Railway Minister immediately went for Bangalore to control the rescue operations.
Railway officials suggested a falling boulder on the track was the cause of derailment.
The train accidents are common in India due to poor safety record. This is the fifth accident on India's railways this year, which carry 20 million passengers daily.
