“Sadly BME [Black and Minority Ethnic] staff are three times more likely to be bullied and harassed and they are more unhappy and when they raise concern about anyone, they are ignored and if it is a white colleague and those in leadership positions then they are more often disciplined and punished,” Umesh Prabhu told Sputnik.
Umesh Prabhu underlined that protection of whistleblowers in British healthcare will benefit both the medical staff and patients.
“I fully support it and anyone who raises concerns must be supported and there must be good leaders who act on their concerns,” Prabhu said, adding that protection of staff and patients should go hand in hand.
He noted that going by his own experiences, when the concerns of the staff are addressed properly “patients are safer and staff are happy.”
